Quit Coaches

Our Support Group is moderated by Quit Coaches employed or contracted by the Canadian Cancer Society’s Smokers’ Helpline.

Quit Coaches have completed post secondary education in varied fields such as nursing, psychology, health and social sciences. They actively participate in ongoing professional development and cessation training to attain renewed understanding and provide current information and support to SHO members. Additionally, Quit Coaches draw on extensive, related experience to motivate members and guide discussions.

Quit Coaches often say they learn from their clients and are motivated by their successes.

Strangers are friends you have yet to meet.  A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.

PAMELA: “I find it most rewarding when a member truly believes they can succeed and accepts that they are succeeding, no matter what stage they are at in their quit.”

In order to succeed you must fail, so that you know what not to do the next time- Anthony J. D'Angelo

MARIANNE: “It inspires me to know that the information, advice or support given to someone could be the missing piece to their quit; giving them hope to carry on.  Imagining yourself as a confident non-smoker helps you to make it possible.”

Once you choose hope, anything's possible- Christopher Reeve

TIANA: “So much of what I learn from clients makes a constructive impact on my life and in turn gets passed back to other clients.  This is a powerful and positive cycle.”

There is only one thing more painful than learning from experience, and that is not learning from experience- Laurence J. Peter

RENEE:  “I have learned from SHO members that we should not be so hard on ourselves.  I now encourage clients to talk to themselves as if they were talking to a friend. This seems to be a kinder, more helpful approach to the struggles of life!”

If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced- Vincent Van Gogh
